Megan Linski and Alicia Rades did a really good job working together to co-author this book. I like reading co-authored books because you don't know what direction the book will go. The Fire Prophecy is written in two peoples perspectives. It jumps back and forth between Sophia and Liam. I never once got lost with the books going back and forth from their perspectives. The story flowed nicely and was a pretty quick read for me.
I really liked all the characters Megan and Alicia wrote, they all added to the story and did not distract you. The main character Sophia, as much as I loved her I did find her annoying sometimes, more in the sense I did not like the choices she was making for herself, and it was making me mad. Liam I adored and loved him and could see why Sophia was drawn to him. He had this mysterious vibe going and it worked well. And who doesn't wanna root for the forbidden love. I would recommend this book to anyone that liked Hunger Games, and any of the Harry Potter books. The Fire Prophecy is an immersive book that takes you away and gets you lost into a world one, only wishes was real. A school for those who posses elemental magic, hidden prophecies, forbidden love, this book does not disappoint. I have started reading the second book in this series The Water Legacy, and so far I cannot put it down! Cannot wait until I can learn more about what is going to happen to Sophia and Liam!

Have I really reached the end of The Journals of Octavia Hollows? How can that be?
Dead As A Doornail is the last instalment in this series, and what an amazing way to wrap up this storyline. Octavia and (my book man crush) Reid are on a race against the clock to save her coven, and get Elba back. I don't want to ruin the book by giving spoilers, but she finally gets the answers of who's stalking her, kidnapped her coven, and who took Elba from her. This mysteries man is not what you would have thought and it makes the book that much better. As sad as I am to see this storyline come to a close, I am also excited to see where Octavia and Bacon journeys will take them in the future, 2020 can not come soon enough. With Stacey Rourke anything is possible and I surly cannot wait. The Journals of Octavia Hollows are EPIC and I highly recommend everyone read about my favorite necromancer and her undead pig! Stacey Rourke, what have you done to me? I am in love with this book. I am not supposed to fall in love with the characters you write because no character is safe in your books. Look at the Legends Saga, the main character Ierland was not safe. However, this speaks volumes to your writing that you can make me love a character even when I know I might get crushed, but I will continue to read every word and soak it all in.
Dead Ringer has everything you want in a book, witty humor, great one liners, hot guys, a bad-ass female lead, pet sidekick, and did I mention hot guys. The flow of the story goes really well and you realize your almost finished and it leaves you wanting more. Stacey Rourke does an amazing job painting a picture with her writing, and you think you are watching a movie instead of reading words in a book. Octavia Hollows is on a journey to find the love of her life Elba, who was taken from her. She had visited many places trying to backtrack on her journeys. Belle Chasse is the next stop, at a boxing ring where she wants her old job back. Jack the club owner is in over his head with Reid the boxer who seems to not be able to die. Octavia can't just sit back and not help out Jack and makes friends with Reid and helps him. I don't want to give away spoilers because you have to read to connect to the emotions, and I want you to form your own opinion but lets just say I am all about Reid. TEAM REID!!! After the last few books Bacon gets some major love in this book and its the cutest thing ever. I cannot wait until Dead As A Doornail drops. I need more Octavia and Reid in my life and to find out who this mystery man is that has taken her coven. I hope you enjoy just as much as I did! *This review will contain spoilers. Proceed with caution.
In Drop Dead Gorgeous, Arroyo has taken Octavia and Bacon to a sirens traveling pageant, to pod leader Bahari. Octavia is the newest member of the pod, trying to find her escape. After watching the pageant, Octavia is sleeping and is awoken by another halfling because there is a double murder. Eldoris and Octavia are trying to figure out what to do as Bahari cannot be dead with Arroyo around, she will be the new leader of the pod and we all know that would not end well for anyone especially our girl Octavia . So Octavia uses her powers but it has failed to work at bringing back the siren. So she does the next best thing and brings the human male soul back into the female siren body, and this is where the hilarity ensues. However there are heartfelt moments in this story. This story Stacey Rourke wrote touched my soul with her words. I have been feeling down about a family situation, along with feeling like I do not belong, and being unwanted. In this book she wrote words which left me feeling empowered with knowledge of who I am, and family does not have to be blood, it can be the family I CHOOSE, genetics be damned. I look forward to the next Journal of Octavia Hollows and see the adventure Stacey Rourke takes her on. It's going to be epic. Art Of Death is the first book in the Curse Breakers series. When Rowan and Abel where born, a curse which was upon their family for centuries was finally broken. Curse Breakers were sought after for the bidding of other Mystics, so their parents along with their other siblings went into hiding in the secluded town of Kodiak Falls.
As Rowan was going about her daily life, she makes one mistake about teasing a couple with a dead rat( yes the humor behind this is great, who wants to watch a couple full on make out with loud noises at your place of employment), in front of a ghost she hadn't realized was there. This one mistake sets into motion events that could not have been foreseen. Abel, while trying to help with the ghost problem brings back the one person Rowan doesn't want to see, Indigo. And lets just say, I want more of Indigo's story of why he was gone for five long years with no word to Rowan. Abel, goes missing, Rowan is on the hunt to find her brother and in turn has to take Indigos help. Trying to find her brother. She learns she is wanted by many families and covens not just the Quintano family who placed the curse upon her family. She has to fight for her life. I don't want to give too many spoilers so you will have to take my word when I say you need to read this book. Becca Vincenza does an amazing job at getting you hooked to her characters. The development of them is amazing, you see them grow into their skin and become confident and know who they are. You can feel the bond she created between Rowan and Indigo. I cannot wait until I can read Secrets of the Dead (Curse Breakers 2). If it is anything like the first I know I am going to love it and be hooked. Can we take a moment to marvel at this cover and all the other covers of The Journals of Octavia Hollows! Not only are these covers stunning, but they give a little hint as to what the book holds in store for us. I cannot wait to see the next cover and read what adventure Octavia Hollows will go on next.
Caught Dead, The Journals of Octavia Hollows Book Three, is not like the other two books in this series. Stacey has wrote this book in a way that gives us more background on Octavia, but makes it to where she learns where she has come from and with this informations is being pushed to fight for her very existence. Octavia is developing as a character right in front of us and it's amazing to see where she will be lead to. The trials she is faced with would break the normal person but, Octavia is fierce and is putting herself on the line for others. Stacey Rourke's way of writing and the rollercoaster of emotions she sets up in her stories keeps you on the edge of your seat, and you don't know what is going to happen at any given moment. Arroyo a Siren, our villain in this book, just gets under my skin. The vile things she does to humans, how she treated her "pet" and then how she treated Octavia and Bacon, I wanted to jump through the book myself and put a beating on her. Yes, I know it is just a book but Stacey is just that good at writing and makes you feel the emotion. Unfortunately Arroyo will be in the next book, and I hope that Octavia brings an unforgettable ass whopping to her. Caught Dead left with a cliffhanger, and has me in a book hangover, I don't see how I can start another book until I can read Drop Dead Gorgeous, May 30th cannot come soon enough. Dead Man's Hand is an excellent read. Vegas the second destination in Octavia's journey to finding answers about the man she loved. Visiting a job site where her old boss is to question him, she puts Bacon into the doggy daycare they have onsite for the employees. I can just see some of there big muscle head guys with these tiny little dogs(makes me laugh). In the midst of talking and working there is a crispy not so good smelling dead guy. She sneaks into the amalance to bring this guy back to get answers from. And lets just say the distraction that she makes to get them all out of there without being seen is hilarious and I laughed out loud really hard.
Octavia is what I have been looking for in a character, funny, badass, and all around great! The journey she is embarking on is one not for the faint of heart. It is bringing up a lot of her past and what she was trying to run from. She is embracing who she is, and realizing she is a badass that doesn't need to hide from who she is or what she is. Stacey Rourke is the best when it comes to character development and world development. I have said it once but I will continue to say it when she can transport you into the story and you feel like you are watching a movie and not just simply reading words off a page. By the end of Dead Man's Hand you are nowhere near getting answers as to why the man she loves was taken away from her, but you do get another sinpet of information that sets her on the next leg of her journey. This books does have a rollercoaster of emotion but I highly recommend reading it. You will not be disappointed in the slightest. I am very much looking forward to book 3! Octavia Hollows, first introduced in How the Dead Lie a Havenwood Falls Novella, is back in Wake the Dead. It's not needed to read How the Dead Lie to read this. I do suggest reading if you want to learn a little more about our favorite pink haired necromancer. She's a complete badass chick, dives right into the thick of things and not afraid of who or what is out there. Also returning with Octavia is her little piggy sidekick, Bacon. I love this pig so much!
Leaving Havenwood Falls, she retraces her journey to find answers as to why the man she loved was stolen from her. First stop brought her to Seattle, Washington. While not giving away too many spoilers, Octavia has been hired so to say to help a dead nurse and her young patient whom is aging at an alarming rate. She must head to her favorite place ( NOT! ) the morgue to see if nurse Nikki has any leads to offer for what is causing this phenomenon. WOW!! Nurse Nikki is something else, she not disappoint. She is hilarious, she has many great one liners, and you completely cannot stop laughing at the humor Stacey has wrapped her in. Wake the Dead is a fast paced, exciting read, and will have you finishing it before you know it. I love reading Stacey's writing. She has a way of writing her characters were they actually grow in front of you. She makes he stories very relatable. This book gets 6 out of 5 stars. I cannot not wait until I get the next book in this series it cannot come soon enough. Grab a copy for yourself to experience the adventure, Octavia is on. Once Upon a Book Author Signing has put me in touch with some amazing authors, and Andrew Allen Smith is one of them. I do not know if it is OUAB or what that brings out the best in everyone, but the side of the room that Andrew was on just seemed to be having so much fun, I made my way over. He was sitting with Jules Nelson author of Shadows, whom I meet the previous year, and did a review of her book. So picking up Vengeful Son, I read the back and was intrigued with the blurb, Andrew gifted me a copy for an honest review, and an honest review he shall get!
Jonathon Michael Masterson or better known as Michael, is the main character. He is precise in his thinking, you can tell he has some sort of military background. He wants things in a tidy non messy order. He wants to live a non eventful life, unlike the his past. The house he lives in with his girlfriend Abby is magnificent, Andrew did an amazing job painting a picture in my mind and selling me on wanting a house with a large glass window overlooking the mountains. Michael's past flame and Abby's old friend, shows up unexpectedly and sets in motion actions that have everyone guessing who is on the right side of the law. The story flows in a way and has you turning pages to see what's going to happen next. It is action packed and keeps you guessing who is the bad guy. The twists and turns this book takes you on you do not see coming. All the characters are well developed and thought out. Andrew gives just enough background information, without losing you and continues to have the story progress. I was really worried when Andrew introduced Maddison that it was going to become a love triangle. Lets just say that did not happen. The way he wrote you can tell that he was confident in the relationship between Abby and Michael. This definitely has some hints for romance but would not consider it a romance book in the slightest. It has action, humor, and a mystery. If you like action packed crime fighting stories this books is right for you. I would say this book reminded me a lot of the Bourne movies and a little of Mr. and Mrs. Smith (minus Abby and Michael working together). I look forward to picking up the next book in this series, Sinful Father, and seeing what the characters get themselves into next. A friend brought this book to my attention. As soon as the words Alice in Wonderland came out of her mouth I knew I had to read this book. I love retellings of my favorite stories. Cameron Jace has taken Alice In Wonderland and brought it to modern day. He has created a world that is mad, dark, twisted and holds some horrors. Insanity draws you in from the very first page, it had me reading non stop until I finished the book. This book left me wanting more, wanting the next book, wanting to know what happens next. Cameron Jace's characters are well developed, and has you rooting for/or against your favorite characters.
This story follows Alice Wonder, she doesn't know who she is or why she is in an asylum. Shock therapies have left her with no recollection of her past. Her only friend, a flower in a pot, whose named Tiger Lily. Alice tries to escape from the asylum and fails. This is where she is introduce to Professor Carter Pillar a serial killer serving his sentence in the asylum, he has been commissioned by the police force to help find and capture a new serial killer "The Cheshire Cat" whom is at large. He has requested Alice as his assistant. Professor Pillar is filling Alice in on the Wonderland Monsters, and who she really is, even if she thinks it's completely mad. Cameron Jace's way of introducing the Wonderland characters as an alter ego in the modern day, had me looking forward to meeting other Wonderlanders. Like the Cheshire, was a very interesting character and how evil he was, Alice thinking she was really mad for thinking Wonderland may just in fact be real, and Professor Pillar being absolutely crazy. But all the characters fit with the book and if you changed them in the slightest it would change the book completely. Insanity lives up to its' name, it is purely insane. I would recommend this book to everyone. You will have so many questions while reading this book, and wonderings of what will happen. Trying to solve the mystery along the way of reading this book and looking for clues was fun, it keeps you interested, sadly I did not guess right at the end. I cannot wait to get my hands on the remaining books in this series I have not read yet and let you know what I think of them. |
